Two sources in this repo have an opinion about 265/70R18 on each of them — the per-generation clearance matrix behind our max-tire estimator, and the per-size candidate table behind the recommender — and where they disagree, the stricter of the two is what you read below.

265/70R18 at 32.6 in is past the modeled stock-height ceiling for a 2nd gen Tacoma (265/70R16 (~30.6 in)), so the conservative read this page publishes is a 3 in suspension lift. At that tier the matrix models 285/75R16 (33s, about 32.8 in), and the clearance work it lists is fender liner trim and cab mount chop for full articulation, with gearing flagged at 4.56-4.88.
The candidate table is the looser of the two for 265/70R18: it clears the size at Factory height with no trimming, which the 2nd gen Tacoma ceiling above does not support. That table rates a size on its own terms — the rule-set's own generation-agnostic description of the size reads "Factory 33-inch-class size on the current Trailhunter and TRD Pro." — with no generation column to narrow it, so where the two disagree this page publishes the matrix tier.
One sourcing caveat for the 2nd gen Tacoma: our per-year fitment rows start at 2017, so nothing in this repo assigns 265/70R18 to a 2005-2015 trim. The 18-inch family we list for that span is a long-running community-documented pattern, not a verified per-year spec, and the ceilings above are the estimator's rule-set for the generation rather than measurements from a 2005-2015 truck.

The 4th gen Tacoma ships 265/70R18 from the factory on TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX, Trailhunter, TRD Pro, and TRD Off-Road, so on this generation it is a stock fitment rather than an upgrade. Our matrix puts a stock-height 4th gen Tacoma at 285/70R17 (33s, about 32.7 in), and 265/70R18 at 32.6 in sits inside that ceiling — which is the agreement you would expect from a size Toyota fitted itself.
Both sources land in the same place for 265/70R18 on a 4th gen Tacoma: the candidate table files it as balanced 33 at Factory height with no trimming — the rule-set's own description of the size reads "Factory 33-inch-class size on the current Trailhunter and TRD Pro." — and the matrix agrees at stock height.
Our two fitment sources disagree about one more thing on the 4th gen Tacoma. The matrix carries a note at that tier — "The big 4th-gen win: 33s (285/70R17 or 275/70R18) fit stock, no trimming." — and our per-size rules overrule it: 285/70R17 sits behind a leveling kit (1-2 in) with minor changes and 275/70R18 sits behind a leveling kit (1-2 in) with minor changes. This page publishes the conservative reading, so treat that note as the matrix's roomiest case rather than a settled bolt-on fit for 265/70R18.
