Toyota Tacoma Tire Size Guide by Year and Trim

Most Tacoma stock tire sizes fall into a few families.

Stock tire size varies by model year, trim, cab, drivetrain, and factory wheel package. For a quick baseline, Tacoma sizes tend to cluster around a few wheel and tire families by generation.

Read those four generations as families rather than as lists. Within a generation the pattern is consistent: the base trims get the narrowest tire on the smallest wheel, the street-oriented trims move to a larger wheel with a shorter sidewall at nearly the same overall diameter, and the off-road trims get the tallest tire in the range. The 3rd generation spans 245/75R16 up to 265/60R18 and never leaves the low-31-inch band; the 4th generation opens a genuine two inches of spread, from 245/70R17 at about 30.5 inches to 265/70R18 at about 32.6.

How to read your door placard and your sidewall

The tire and loading information placard in the driver's door jamb states what the truck was certified with when it left the factory. The code moulded into the tire sidewall states what is fitted right now. On a truck that has had one set of tires replaced by a previous owner, those two are routinely different - and both are more authoritative for your vehicle than any chart, including ours.

• Front and rear tire sizeThe size the truck was certified with on each axle. On a Tacoma these match, but the placard states them separately because the format is standardised across every vehicle.
• Spare tire sizeOften a different size from the road tires. This is the line that tells you whether a full-size upgrade will still fit under the bed, and whether your spare can be driven on normally.
• Cold inflation pressureThe pressure for the ORIGINAL tire at that size, measured cold. It is a certification figure tied to the factory fitment, not a universal number - a load range E replacement carries the same load at a different pressure.
• Seating capacity and combined weightThe combined weight of occupants and cargo the truck is rated for. Bigger, heavier tires eat into payload before you have loaded anything.

Two habits save most of the mistakes people make here. First, read the placard before you shop, not after: a size you find on the sidewall may already be a previous owner's upsize, and matching it perpetuates their decision rather than the factory's. Second, treat the placard pressure as belonging to the placard tire. It is the cold inflation figure the truck was certified with for that specific original fitment, so a heavier load range E replacement should be set from a load-inflation table instead of copied off the door.

How big are common Tacoma tire sizes?

Tire dimensions are nominal. Actual diameter, width, weight, and tread shape vary by brand, model, load rating, and tread depth. Use these numbers as a reference point before comparing a replacement or upgrade size.

Those years are not all evidenced the same way, and this guide says which is which rather than presenting them as one uniform table. 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2026 carry trim-level Toyota sourcing behind their trim sizes. 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2025 do not: for those years the size list is credible and widely repeated, but the mapping of size to trim has never been proven against a year-specific Toyota document, so they are published as the common factory pattern for the year. One further wrinkle worth knowing before you read a year page. Several spans - 2017-2020 and 2021-2022 among them - are stored as a single set of trim sizes covering more than one model year, because the sources never separated them at the trim level. A page built on such a year is therefore built on data it shares with its neighbours, which is a real limitation rather than a formatting choice, and it is another reason the door placard outranks any table here for your specific truck.
