The load index is a coded number for how much weight one tire can carry at full inflation. For example load index 115 is 2,679 lb per tire. Multiply by four for the vehicle total.
Toyota engineers the Tacoma for tires with a load index of 109 or higher, which is 2,271 lb per tire. Staying at or above the door-placard load index keeps the truck within spec.
The speed rating letter is the maximum sustained speed the tire is designed for. Common Tacoma OE ratings are S (112 mph), T (118 mph), and H (130 mph).
